Let’s face it—motherhood is hard, working is hard, life in general is hard and in between you have moments of sheer bliss along side moments of complete heartache. That is life. Our mothers tried to have it all. They worked, they struggled to have hot meals on the table, they tried to find time to help with homework, they did the laundry on weekends, etc. etc. Where did that get them? Well, if you come from one of the many broken homes as I do, it landed them in divorce. Yet, making the struggle even harder.

Then there is the exception-to-the-rule mom. I actually know one. However, she has a staff (of sorts). She and her husband are successful in the business world and able to afford child care and house help. One of her main goals is to provide her family a hot, homemade meal at the end of the day. Nothing more, nothing less. It doesn’t always work out for them that they sit together, but the meal is made. This is her expression mother’s love and devotion to her family.

My goal is to fall into the middle of those two. I can’t and don’t want to have the proverbial “have it all”. I want to have most of it. I want to have a business that I enjoy showing up for. I want to have at least one moment of laughter a day with my son and my husband. I want to attempt to give them both a decent meal.

And, at the end of the day, I want to put my head down on the pillow and thank the powers that be that my life is really GREAT!
